Is there such a thing as eating too healthy? Yes, say health experts, who are seeing more cases of orthorexia, a condition marked by an obsession with healthy eating. Though it isn't an officially-recognized eating disorder, the health dangers that lurk are very real.
What is othorexia nervosa?
Orthorexia nervosa is a term coined by Steven Bratman, M.D., author of Health Food Junkies: Orthorexia Nervosa, who first described the condition, and is derived from the Greek "orthos" meaning correct or straight, and "orexis" meaning appetite. It is characterized by a nutritional obsession with eating healthy to the extreme.
