8. Cut down on sugar

Sugar should be consumed in moderation, and the maximum recommended daily intake is around 60g per day (10% of total calorie intake), says Croft-o'Halloran. When you're checking ingredient lists for sugar content, be aware that sugars can also be labelled as glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, syrups (e.g. corn syrup, maple syrup), dextrose, honey, and molasses so it's not always straight-forward to tell whether sugar is a main ingredient. So look for helpful labels such as reduced sugar, no added sugar or sugar-free in food and drinks, she recommends.
